3M Appoints New Leadership

3M has appointed Michael Roman as COO, and Hak Cheol (HC) Shin as Vice Chair.


Roman will be directly responsible for 3M’s five business divisions, along with the its International Operations. He most recently served as EVP of 3M’s largest unit, Industrial Business Group.


Shin will lead critical global functional teams including Research and Development, Strategy and Business Development, Supply Chain Operations and Information Technology. Shin has served as EVP of International Operations since 2011.


Other leadership changes announced today included:

  • Julie Bushman, currently SVP, Business Transformation and Information Technology, was appointed EVP, International Operations.
  • John Banovetz, currently Managing Director, DACH region (combined Germany, Austria, Switzerland), was appointed SVP, Research and Development and CTO.
  • James Bauman, currently EVP, Electronics and Energy Business Group, was appointed EVP, Industrial Business Group.

The board of directors also waived the mandatory retirement age of 65 years for CEO Ingo Thulin.
